The U.S. Supreme Court revives parts of Trumps Muslim Travel Ban

Read original report by Lawrence Hurley on Reuters or read a quick summary below;

  1. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday handed a victory to President Donald Trump by narrowing the scope of lower court rulings that blocked his travel ban on people from six Muslim-majority countries and agreeing to hear his appeals in the cases.
  2. The court said it would hear arguments on the legality of one of Trump’s signature policies in his first months as president in the court’s next term, which starts in October.
  3. The justices granted parts of his administration’s emergency request to put the March 6 executive order into effect immediately while the legal battle continues.
  4. The court said that the travel ban is in effect “with respect to foreign nationals who lack any bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.”
  5. The court also said it would allow a 120-day ban on all refugees entering the United States to go into effect on the same grounds.
  6. Three of the court’s conservatives said they would have granted Trump’s request in full, including Trump appointee Neil Gorsuch.

Read original report by Nicole Chavez and Joe Sutton on CNN or read a quick summary below;

  1. A burned Quran filled with bacon was found outside a Sacramento mosque Saturday, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said. It was hanging by a handcuff from a temporary fence outside the Masjid Annur Islamic Center.
  2. The center, which is the largest mosque in the greater Sacramento area, is next to a police station but it has been targeted in the past. Another center was targeted about 20 miles west in Davis, California.
  3. As Ramadan Taraweeh prayers were underway Friday, an individual dropped a “large quantity” of cut up pages of the Quran outside the Islamic Center of Davis, Sgt. Dan Powell with the Davis Police Department said.

“There is no video of any suspects or video of the incident occurring; but we are calling this a hate incident,” he said.

  4. It’s not the first time the center was attacked or vandalized. In January, police said 30-year-old Lauren Kirk-Coehlo broke windows, damaged property and placed bacon on door handles at the Davis center. She was sentenced to five years’ probation on June 15 after pleading guilty to a felony hate crime, CNN affiliate KVOR reported.

Poem – Farewell Ramadhan

Ramadhan Came,
Ramadhan Went,

Did we change?
Time will tell,

Isn’t it strange,
How quick it went,

We fasted and prayed,
And our sleep was re-arranged,

But did we change?
Time will tell.

What did we exchange,
For the long term range,

Just food and sleep?
How deranged!

Didn’t we hear,
About the infinite years,

Or were we unclear,
And immersed in our careers…

Don’t we fear,
How death is near?

Wasn’t Grenfell clear,
How one can immediately disappear!

This Ramadhan we shed so many tears,
Death and destruction is all we hear,

So many maimed and Muslims always blamed,
“Terrorism” is all they claim.

We are being framed,
And played in the condemnation game,

But we live and we learn and we must now aim,
For our narrative to be reclaimed.

It wasn’t us who sparked the flames,
For imperial gains,

Don’t be ashamed,
For the truth to be proclaimed,

Capitalism remains unblamed,
For the “War on Terror” it nicknamed,

Millions have died in vane,
Many remain maimed and chained,

It doesn’t take a genius brain,
To see that Muslims are being framed.

But we are now constrained,
And must be quickly trained.

The narrative must be reframed,
Be part of the change.

Victory is near,
And Insh’Allah soon we will have an Amir
